Bobcat!

This curious bobcat came by the house early this morning to check out our hens. He (or she) seems underweight for this time of year, so I suspect it’s a juvenile still learning to hunt. I took this picture with my Nikon, but later that day, I checked one of several game cameras I have set up around our property and caught this shot of our friend near the chicken coop. He must have known he was being photographed.

WELCOME. I'm Ranae LaFerney. I write about the awe-inspiring landscape and wildlife of the North Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. Ever hear of a mountain beaver? Most people haven’t. Well, check out this post and you’ll be an expert in no time. In this rustic part of the country we see a lot of interesting friends pass through: bobcats, coyote, the occasional cougar. And birds, of course. It’s a wonderful life, a little less ordinary and all the more precious. I’d like to share some of my experiences with you.
